Paid Vacation...

Part one of the backpack adventure checked off. I got the global phone for $78.00 today and I hope it will arrive safely in Copenhagen. It's a start. I looked extensively on line for my first part of the trip in which I may have to re-evaluate. I'll have to look into different possibilities. One may be taking the time in Paris first and then Italy. Getting to Italy from Amsterdam is not really affordable or convenient. It's going to be a lot of work. I can't buy rail tickets on line. They will have to be off the cuff since they need to be shipped somewhere. That makes it slightly more expensive I believe unless the prices are set. It's going to be fun while I'm doing it, but I'll have to keep an open mind while doing it. I have MANY MANY lessons to be learned coming up. Today on my little vacation/work cruise in the Baltic I ventured out by bike and went to Rostock with some friends. It was so awesome. The weather was perfect. I went out earlier in the day and walked around the quaint tourist town of Warnemundë. After snapping some picturesque photos I met up with my friends and we began our journey by bike to Rostock about 8km away. Well we came across some obstacles and not an idea of how to get there other than to follow the river and the train path. We got waylaid a few times and completely turned around once causing a bit of delay. Eventually after asking for directions an umpteen amount of times we made it into the city and the University Square (Platz). It was a lovely journey and the weather was not too hot and not too cold. We sat down and ate the local German fare at a café and my friends enjoyed the local beer (Rostocker). I'm not a beer drinker and just enjoyed a chocolate Russian (hot chocolate with vodka). We sat there and it began to rain so we took cover under the canopies. It was so interesting and relaxing to sit there and chat after a long bike ride and people watch. It's a university town. We got up and left and made our way to the train station where we caught the last possible train out of Rostock that would get us back to Warnemundë in time. We were slightly confused by the ticket purchasing system and in a press for time we had to give up and run to the train. We determined that we'd pay on board if they asked. No one asked and we got a free ride back. They should make their kiosks easier to use so people can pay for their tickets. We high tailed it back to the port area where we locked up our bikes and headed back to the ship. The odometer on the bike said we traveled 24.6km or 15 miles today. That was quite a whopper. It was a great day though and I like staying out here now. I was a little bit sketchy about it at first since my immediate co-workers have gone, but it's growing on me.
